Why do I need to cite sources?

Answer

A citation will include the basic pieces of information necessary to allow you to find the article. Your instructor/reader can then use the citations in the bibliography of your paper to identify and locate those same articles.

Scholarship is a conversation that is always changing and growing. When you cite the works of others you show that you have explored the current research on an issue and you are adding your informed voice to the conversation.

It is also essential to cite work when you are using the ideas or words of another person to avoid plagiarism, which is taking someone's work and passing if off as your own.
